My teammate and good friend Monta Ellis just concluded his annual Celebrity All-Star weekend held in his hometown of Jackson, Mississippi. The four-day event included basketball workshops, a Celebrity comedy show and a community BBQ in which Monta gave out free school supplies to the youth.

Monta speaking about his camp and the importance of working with the youth.

Monta showcasing his agility skills to the kids

The entire weekend was in support of the Monta Ellis “ME8 Foundation” which you can check out here.

As an athlete, it’s very important for us to take time out and interact with our fans but more importantly the youth in our communities. Any chance to spend time with them and give back to our community is an opportunity for us to build relationships which will leave a lasting impression.

Want to wish everyone a very Happy 4th of July! Make sure you’re safe and having fun while you BBQ, playing some ball or lighting some fireworks.  Have a great day and I’ll holla at you later.

Yesterday, I had the honor of spending time at the Boys and Girls club here in my hometown of Flint, Michigan.  It was a great experience as I had a lot of fun mingling with the kids, taking a tour of the facility and having a Q&A session with the youth in attendance.

It’s always a pleasure to communicate with the youth especially here in my hometown as embedding in their minds the value of education and hard work is essential.  They allowed me to share my story with them as they listened attentively throughout our discussion.

I had a blast spending my day with the youth at the Boys & Girls club and look forward to visiting them again this summer.
